Even from a young age, I have always loved makeup. I have vivid memories of coaxing my mom into being my "client" and letting me put lipstick or mascara on her. I wanted to wear makeup every chance I could, but she urged me not to until I got older.
Now, at 13 I understand that the best makeup a girl can wear is her smile. But, sometimes you need a little something extra. That's where makeup comes in. Sometimes a little blush or mascara can give a girl the boost of confidence she needs to be herself. However, makeup should never be so overdone that it looks "caked on". The motto of preppy makeup is "less is more". Its main focus is to accentuate your natural beauty. This means it should look like you aren't wearing any makeup.
Here are some examples of classic/preppy makeup:
All three of these ads show "fresh faced", natural looking models.
To achieve this look (this is what I do), don't use foundation. Instead, use concealer on blemishes and under the eyes. The concealer under the eyes should be a shade lighter than your natural skin tone to brighten that area. Next, a bit of eyeliner(in brown or black) on the top lids and eyebrow pencils to frame your face. Add some pink, nude or red lipstick and you're ready to go! If you want, you can also use eyeshadow as long as it's nothing too bright (think peaches or nude colors!). For more formal occasions or during the winter, you can wear a bit of bronzer and blush for that "glow". Again, don't be too heavy handed with the bronzer, you don't want to end up looking like a Kardashian. ;)
What's your beauty routine like?
With love,
